Facebook Gameroom Is Gone — How to Play FB Games in 2026

You can’t download Facebook Gameroom anymore — Meta shut it down on June 30, 2021. The old Windows installer no longer works. To play Facebook games today, open the Facebook app and tap the Gaming tab, or visit facebook.com/games in any browser — no separate download required. What happened to Facebook Gameroom?

Facebook Gameroom was a standalone Windows app — launched in 2016 as Facebook Games Arcade — that let you play Facebook games in their own desktop window instead of a browser tab. Meta retired it on June 30, 2021 and pulled the installer offline. The separate Facebook Gaming app followed, shutting down in October 2022.

Two things drove the change: the death of Adobe Flash, which powered most classic Facebook games and reached end-of-life on December 31, 2020; and Meta folding gaming back into the main Facebook app and browser, where modern HTML5 games run with no install at all.

How to play Facebook games now (no download needed)

On a computer

Log in at facebook.com, click Gaming in the left-hand menu, then browse or search for a game and click to play it right in your browser. Nothing to install.

On your phone or tablet

Open the Facebook app, tap the menu, and choose Gaming — or just tap a game link in your feed or in Messenger. The game loads instantly inside the app.

These are Instant Games: lightweight HTML5 titles that need no download, and your progress saves automatically to your Facebook account, so you can pick up on any device where you’re logged in. Facebook still has 250 million-plus monthly Instant Games players, so there’s plenty to choose from.

What about your old Gameroom games?

It depends on the game. Titles that relied on Flash are gone for good — Flash itself was switched off at the end of 2020. Many popular games moved to the HTML5 Instant Games format or launched their own mobile apps, so search your app store for the title to check. A few classics were retired entirely by their developers and aren’t coming back in any form.

Is Facebook Gaming shutting down completely?

Not for players. You can still play games in the app and browser as described above. What’s winding down is the creator side: the standalone Gaming app is gone, and Meta is phasing out its Facebook Gaming Creator Program for streamers by 2026. Casual game-playing through Instant Games continues.
